Wheeler steps into custodian role at West High

In almost every institution, a set staff of custodians is vital to making sure that areas remain in clean condition. At Morristown West High School, there are eight custodians with one being recently added, Taylor Wheeler. She was added a few weeks ago. It is vital to report on and pick the brain of new members here at West. 

After having some time to experience her new environment, Mrs. Wheeler was interviewed about her thoughts and opinions. She grew up in Cocke County (still lives there), and attended Walters State for a year before going to a vocational school to be a dental assistant. Additionally, she has not worked in a custodian position before, but she has some experience doing similar positions like being a busser at Cheddar’s. 

She enjoys her schedule because it allows her to pick up her son from school, and it is a stable job.  Her son is only six years old and is an indispensable part of her life. When asked about the other custodians' treatment of her, she spoke very positively, explaining how they would take their time to ensure she was able to understand everything. As for other bodies at MWHS, students, teachers, and office staff, she hasn’t been able to have many interactions, but despite the limited number, she still described them all as mostly positive. 

One thing that hindered her in the beginning was getting a routine down, and also having to remember locations, keys, and availability of different places throughout the entire school. However, she has been arriving in the morning to clean both the boys' and girls' locker rooms, allowing her to interact with some students, and she, alongside custodian Rick, operates cleaning the lunchroom in between lunch periods. 

She feels positive towards our current staff and student body, despite not having a mountain of interactions; from what she has gathered, people here seem polite, sweet, and normal. Overall, she is hopeful about her future here at West and is excited to operate alongside the staff and student body.
