Soccer: What it is, How it became Popular, why kids love it

Soccer, or as most people in certain countries call it “Football’’ is a worldwide sport played by millions.  It is a very skilled sport where one has to have good communication and teamwork skills. People play it in schools, community fields, and big stadiums. West High has a girls and boys soccer team.

What soccer is:

Soccer is a game where two teams both play with 11 players on each side of their teams. Their goal is to score goals on the other team. There are many ways to score such as using a player’s feet of course, but one can also use their head,  chest,  shoulder, and everything else except for your hands and arms. Although there is one player on both teams that are able to use their hands and that is the goalkeeper. A goalee’s job is to make sure that no one scores inside their net. A soccer match lasts 90+ Min, which is split into two halves which last 45 min each, unless its a major game like where one has to win to go on to the next round or a final to win a trophy.

How Soccer Became Popular:

Soccer became popular in the communities and countries around the world. It is really easy to play the sport as well which makes many people enjoy the sport and is another reason why it became popular.Another way it became popular is the Big International Events which made it global. They helped make the sport become famous across the whole world which made fans follow their favorite teams and players from different countries.It mainly grew through social media.There are many clips and videos about it online where many different people of all ages see it.

Awards Top Teams And Players Can Win:Soccer has many major trophies, like Tournament Trophies which are for the teams, and individual awards that the players can win. But here are some major trophies that the team and players can win.

Major Team Trophies:

:  The FIFA World Cup (National Teams): This is the biggest tournament in the sport. This tournament happens every four years which makes it even more exciting to watch. Many players and teams really hope to win this tournament.  Also the 2026 World Cup winner was Spain's national team. They won 1-0 against Argentina which caused the best player in the world Lional Messi to lose his last World Cup in his career. The top goal scorer was Kylian Mbappe with an astonishing 10 goals! But sadly, his national team France was knocked out by the World Cup winners in the semi-final. This match was played at Dallas Stadium. 

 The UEFA Champions League ( Clubs): This tournament is one of the biggest competitions for the Club teams in Europe. Many soccer clubs play against other top teams, and the final is watched worldwide. One of the best teams in the champions league is Real Madrid there history is amazing they have one 15! Champions league finals. They have 10 more than their rival team Barcelona. The last champions league winners was not real M

adrid it was PSG (Paris Saint-Germen) they won back to back which is incredible.

Why everyone likes the sport: 

People love the sport because of how exciting it is to watch and how they can support many teams and players. The people that are ages 13 to 18 love to play the sport and love to get better and compete against different teams.
