Porter Stuart Loves His Town
Four instruments, two jobs, and life in one little small town: How does Porter Stuart manage to do it all? Stuart is a name many have heard throughout the halls of both Morristown-West and Morristown-East. He is always on the move, and is known as a member of nearly every club West offers. He actively participates in Beta Club, Student Council, Marching Band, Random Acts of Kindness Club, School Advisory Panel, and is also a CTE Ambassador for Hamblen County.
A Joyful Spirit:
One of the many things he is known for is always being excited, whether it’s for the new things he is about to learn in Pre-Calculus or just to see a friendly face in the hallway. Student Cooper Hill expressed,, “At Beta Convention, he always had a smile between his cheeks for everyone he met. In general, he just lightened up the whole weekend.” His friendly demeanor is one of his most popular attributes.
Making Noise:
Between French Class and his love of musical pursuits, Porter is almost always creating sound. He plays the oboe, clarinet, trumpet, and piano proficiently, while playing many other instruments at a beginner or intermediate skill level. He is also deeply tied to his Cajun family history, and is taking French in order to connect with his roots. Though once fluent in the Cajun dialect, he is now having to relearn much of what he once knew. Beyond these more academic pursuits, he is also known for being quite the talker and would be able to hold a conversation with a plastic plant.
A Community Staple:
He is also an extremely active member of the community and prides himself on being a member of not only Morristown, but also the Witt Community. When not rushing between events at both First Baptist Church and Witt Baptist Church, or attending one of his father’s County Commission meetings, he can most often be found at his grandparents’ house in the Witt community. His devotion to both his family and community is admirable, and he has been quoted as saying that Morristown “is the most perfect place in the world.”
In the future, he hopes to pursue a business degree at the University of Tennessee and is learning his way around businesses through both his job at the Tennessee Valley Authority and also working for his father’s business, Morristown Tree Service. He hopes to travel the world, though he has already been across the United States, but wants to continue living in Morristown in the future. He is just one of the many exemplary students at Morristown-West High School.
