Welcome back Trojan Nation! The first day of school will be Tuesday Aug. 1, 2023. Students will attend the entire time from 8:00 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. Wednesday Aug. 2 students will not attend school due to an administration day. The first full day of school will be Thursday Aug. 3.

Freshman Meet and Greet will be Monday, July 31. It will run from 5:00-6:30. Students can pick up their schedule in the gym breezeway, turn in two proofs of residency, locate needed bus route information, and walk their class schedule. Students can also get sports and Beta Club information. Parents and guardians are welcome to attend with their child.

On the first day of school Aug. 1. all students except seniors are to report to the gym for a pep rally beginning at 8:00 a.m. Seniors will have a red carpet entrance and report to auditorium first. The band will play the National Anthem, and the senior class president will say the Pledge of Allegiance. Then, opening comments and introduction of Student Council members will be addressed by the Student Body President. Mr. Kinsler, head principal, will provide a welcome and new staff introductions. Furthermore, cheerleaders and band will rally the students with a fight song, chants, and cheers. Moreover, students will break out by grade levels and attend Trojan Nation Network (TNN) for homeroom. Lastly, students will attend all four classes and be dismissed at 11:15 a.m.

Students, please begin signing into your Google Classroom at https://classroom.google.com to prepare for your learning platform. This is a way to see your schedule and find out who is in each class.

Any student who needs to change a schedule, please look in the Counseling Office google classroom. Make sure you are logged in with your student email to access it. Please read all of the requirements listed about schedule changes on the form before you submit. The deadline for changes is Aug. 4. Even if you have emailed your counselor about a schedule change, you will still need to fill out a form.

The Parent Portal Login address has changed. It is now hcboe.powerschool.com. If you currently have Parent Portal bookmarked on your computer of phone, you will need to change it to the new address.

Seniors, begin applying for scholarships now. The Gates Scholarship is a highly selective, last-dollar scholarship for minority, high school seniors from low-income households. To apply, students must be: A high school senior, from at least one of the following ethnicities: African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific Islander American, and Hispanic American, Pell-eligible, a US citizen, national, or permanent resident, and in good academic standing with a minimum cumulative weighted GPA of 3.3 Apply online at http://.www.thegatesscholarship.org/scholarship. The deadline is September 15, 2023.

VFW Voice of Democracy Scholarship- has been the Veterans of Foreign Wars’ premier scholarship Program since 1947. Awards are offered on the local, state and national levels. Students compete by writing and recording an audio essay on an annual patriotic theme. This year’s theme is: What Makes America Great. The scholarship program is open to grades 9-12. Applications are available in the Counseling Office. The deadline to apply is Oct. 31, 2023.

In sports news, boys golf will have the Morristown Invitational match July 31 at 8:30 a.m. at The Country Club. Tuesday, Aug.1 girls golf will begin at 8:30 a.m. at The Country Club. The first home varsity football game will be versus East Friday Aud. 18 at 7:00 p.m. Freshmen will play East Aug. 21 at 6:00 p.m. The Lady Trojan soccer team will face Chuckey DoadkAug.1 at home beginning at 6:30 p.m. Also, Aug. 3, the Lady Trojan soccer team will face West Ridge at home beginning at 6:00 p.m.
