All Hail the Queen: Emily Yang
Morristown West High School officially welcomed its newest royal member Sept. 11, 2026, when Miss Emily Yang, escorted by Deegan Trent, was crowned the 2026 Homecoming Queen.
Yang is always challenging herself here at West as she strives to be the best version of herself. Yang’s favorite quote is “You cannot see your own reflection in boiling water” - Buddha. This helped her in her journey to be the best version of herself by reminding her to not act rashly that one should calm down and collect their thoughts. After high school, Yang plans to pursue becoming an eye surgeon which will include researching and performing newer vision surgeries to have longer-lasting and safer alternatives to LASIK.
Yang never expected to hear her name and “Homecoming Queen” in the same sentence. In fact she expected one of her friends to win but was pleasantly surprised when she heard her name called. She states, “The first thought that went through my head when I won Homecoming Queen was, ‘I have to call my parents and grandparents to tell them the good news.’” Yang's parents and grandparents have always been her biggest supporters. They are her role models and she is very grateful for them, and all they do for her. Yang states that one of the best parts about being on the Homecoming court was “Spending time getting ready with my friends and the excitement of my loved ones.”
Yang's new favorite memory here at West is getting Homecoming Queen and the experience of it all. That it was just simply one of those things that you cannot put a price on. Yang believes that her freshman self would tell her that she is proud of who she became and that she is happy that she finally gets to feel appreciated and accepted.
Yang will continue to do amazing things long after she has graduated. This will not be the last you hear or see her name. Yang has never seen her future and reflection more clearly than now.
