The West Cross Country team started off the season with a bang with both teams placing well against seven different schools. The boys team placed second while the girl’s team placed third. Maryville was a tough opponent throughout the meet, maintaining a 50 point lead ahead of the boys cross country team. Both the boys and girls struggled, but ultimately persevered in the end.

Head Coach Doug Burroughs commented post meet and stated that, “We had several freshman perform better than expected. Since it was their first race, they didn’t know what to expect, but they pulled through in the end. I also think that we had some strong performances from some upperclassmen on the girl’s side. The Varsity boys also ran strong. I did not think that we performed our best on the highest level, but overall the team did a pretty good job.”

With the first race of the season out of the way, the West Cross country team is working vigorously to improve their performance for the upcoming races.
