For decades, students and staff at West High have contributed Thanksgiving food boxes and monetary donations to Central Services to support Hamblen County residents during the holiday. Despite the heavy rain, students from various classes, clubs, and sports teams assisted in loading the Central Services van alongside director Ashley Hux. More than 50 boxes of food and over $500 in donations were presented to Hux. Each box contained stuffing, chicken broth, pie crust, marshmallows, canned vegetables, desserts, canned milk, rice, beans, canned meat, and much more. Mr. Jeff Kinsler, the principal, remarked, "I am so proud of the Trojan Nation for feeding at least 65 or more families this Thanksgiving."
In the upcoming week, Central Services will distribute food to families who have applied for meal assistance. Hux noted, "This season, our community has faced an unusually high level of food insecurity." The West Trojans have generously contributed to support Hamblen County.
