Through the lens: Suzuki, editor, enjoys yearbook photography
Honoka Suzuki, yearbook editor, shares about photography and aspects of the yearbook. Suzuki has been taking photography for three years now. Her favorite part of being on the yearbook staff is taking photos of the perfect moments. She often goes to games and events to capture the sparkling energies of students.
Suzuki states “ I have multiple things that are difficult, but the most important is making sure every staff is on task and keeping pages done by deadline.” Suzuki's favorite photographer is Mr. Chris Greene. She says “ I always loved the pictures of football players bursting out from the paper banners that cheerleaders create.”
The most difficult pictures Suzuki has taken are prom pictures because some people are dancing, and the room is dark. She has to adjust the settings to get a good shot.
Suzuki is inspired by a yearbook editor Norah Smith from the previous year who was a great leader for her.
Things Suzuki enjoys discussing with her staff are things that are hard she is not sure about because they give her a new perspective and ideas.
Something she would tell someone if they wanted to do photography is “ for photography, take as many pictures as you could. No one starts out perfect, and it will progressively get better for the yearbook if you are interested in publishing stuff and interacting with people. I highly recommend trying it. There are a lot of obstacles
like deadlines, talking to people, but once you overcome them you will be proud of yourself and the book.” Yearbook teacher Mrs. Jacqueline Cutshaw says “ Honoka has been a leader on my staff for the past three years, and I am so thankful to have her serving as my editor-in-chief this year. She is a creative and dedicated leader who takes initiative, isn't afraid to speak up, and follows through on what needs to be done. Her commitment to doing things well and seeing her ideas come to life makes her a valuable leader. She takes pride in her work and is always willing to put in extra effort and time to make sure things get done right. Her dedication and willingness to step up when needed make her an integral part of our yearbook staff.”
