The 9th and 10th grade Computer Science Foundations class taught by Mrs. Whaley met with meteorologist Mr. Charles Dalton Oct. 14, 2026, and toured the National Weather Service facility. Students learned how AI and computer science predict weather patterns after they have started. Older physics models on supercomputers in Washington D.C. predict strong weather patterns prior to them beginning. Students observed meteorologists observing weather patterns on Windows and Unix based satellite systems.

Academic skills utilized in meteorology are enough math courses to fulfill a math minor at a university. Students also take programming courses in college to become a certified meteorologist.

Employability skills explored were to learn that students can job shadow the National Weather Service in Morristown for a day to decide if they want to pursue a career in meteorology. Senior high school students or college students can fulfill internship positions to pursue their career. Mrs. Whaley remarks, "Thank you Meteorologist Dalton and the Morristown National Weather Service for teaching us how computer science predicts the weather!"
