Thanksgiving; Time To Reflect, Relax, Reorganize Love in Family
Thanksgiving, this day we celebrate by giving each other unconditionally without expecting anything back and giving thanks to anything that is desired of people and what they want to be thankful for. This tradition is a rocky one to say the least as the total history of Thanksgiving is more than what’s told; however, what if Thanksgiving is the same now as it was back then? As it turns out, the same bickering that can be done between relatives, is the same sort of bickering that the Natives(Native Americans), and Americans(Colonists) have been doing for nearly three centuries.
Yes it’s true; however, it is not the same argument because relatives will argue about the sports game going on and what team is going to win, or how to make the turkey taste the best, or even if board games should be played before food is eaten. Whereas the Natives and Americans have been fighting over what interpretation of Thanksgiving is right and which one should be told; however, that is not the true importance of this season/holiday. No, the true importance of Thanksgiving is true selflessness and Thanking someone for such, the true meaning of Thanksgiving is in the title of the holiday.
That being said, Thanksgiving is more than just a time for pure good will, it is a time for change… A time for reflection… A time to understand themselves better and get a grasp on what they have accomplished that year and what they can still accomplish the next day as well. Thanksgiving is really just “Spirit Day;” because it is the only day of the year that people celebrate themselves for being good hearted as well as generous. However, not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving; in fact, only America/Americans celebrate it as it is an American made holiday, so it is only celebrated in the country it was created in(mostly).
In fact a lot of countries have these types of holidays; for example, “Burns’ Night,” created by Scotland as a celebration of the poet Robert Burns, in which they turned his birthday Jan. 25. Into a holiday. “Bastille Day: July. 14.” Created by the French as a celebration of their independence(similar to America’s, Fourth of July). And one last one “Bloomsday: June. 16.” A Dublin holiday that celebrates Ireland’s most famous author who wrote the epic novel “Ulysses.”
However, it does not matter if other countries do not celebrate Thanksgiving Day. The essence of the holiday can be celebrated by anyone as long as they value change and true selflessness, as well as thanking each other unconditionally for unconditional things that one of them did for the other. Truly the meaning of Thanksgiving is expansive and very interpretive as it could be anything besides what has been mentioned in this article; however, it will never be about fighting. Even though the opinion that it is about fighting is shared with many people, the premise of Thanksgiving is not supposed to be about negative things, but many people view it as such. Well, the truth of it is that all humans will find a positive outlook in something, even if that something is not ideal. The premise of Thanksgiving will always be in the positive of what someone can do and what that person can be thankful for, when the next Thanksgiving comes around.
