Powering West High: A Day in the Life of Senior IT Specialist Dustin Knight

Here At West High, Senior IT Specialist and Lead Technician Dustin Knight does far more than just keep the Wi-Fi running. A proud West High alumnus and TCAT graduate, Mr. Knight manages the complex technology needs of both staff and students while also serving as the district’s "digital artist"—the creative mind behind the Hamblen County Schools logo.

He teaches the helpdesk class and is responsible for showing students how to dismantle and repair laptops. He now works from 7:30 a.m. in the morning to 4:30 p.m. working and helping others with his assistant Mr. Ian Nielson. Knight is also known for being the digital artist for Hamblen County Schools and is the one responsible for the West High Hamblen County school logo.

Knight sometimes works overtime. He explained, ”There are hectic days then there are calm days”. He always wanted to help people no matter what he was doing. One day he took an internship from the CTE program and that started his love for the job. He has now worked with West High for many, many years now.

While students head home for spring break or the summer, Mr. Knight remains on a 12-month contract, working year-round to ensure the school's digital infrastructure is ready for the first day of class.
