Every year, West High School nominates Senior Superlatives. One senior boy and one senior girl for each category. The categories are chosen by the yearbook staff. One of the categories is named “Most Athletic.” For the 2023-24 school year, Jalen McCullough and Kaylee Dyke were nominated for the Most Athletic Category.
Jalen McCullough is a senior and plays two sports at West High. McCullough is a big family guy. He says, “ My inspiration for playing sports is my family, love for sports, and competing.” He has been playing football since he was five and basketball since he was seven. McCullough plays both basketball and football. His favorite coach was Coach Coffman, who was his middle school coach. McCullough states “My favorite moment was the football game against Bearden this year.” He also adds, “My dad always told me that life was like sports. He would say, "When things get tough what are you gonna do? Will you fold or are you going to step up and be the man.".” McCullough also plans on playing sports for college.
Kaylee Dyke is a senior and plays two sports at West High. Dyke plays Softball and Basketball. She’s been playing both since she was 8. Her dream has always been to play at the collegiate level and soon she will be able to do that. She recently received a scholarship to play softball at Johnson University. Her favorite sports to play are softball and basketball. Dyke’s favorite coach is her dad, followed by Coach Kelly and Coach Gaylon. Her favorite games this year were the East vs. West game for both sports. Dyke states, “My mom tells me before every game, "Play hard and have fun".”
