Hamblen County Spreads Awareness of the Usage of R-word

Hamblen County celebrated the ninth year of “Spread the Word, To End the Word,” which is a national campaign put on by the Special Olympics each year, on March 2, 2022. The campaign is to spread the awareness of the use of the R-word(retarded) as it is offensive and disrespectful towards individuals with disabilities. The campaign advertises and promotes the awareness of the usage of the R-word to create a more accepting and positive attitude towards people with disabilities. All the money raised was donated to Area 10 Special Olympics. The shirts pictured were bought by many individuals from as far as New Jersey and Middle Tennessee.
