Over 100 West High students were polled on their music taste. Students could write in genres of music that were not included in the poll, as well as their favorite artists.
With 46 votes, Pop took first place. Those who were polled mentioned Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Olivia Rodrigo, Ariana Grande, and Harry Styles as some of their favorite artists.
In second place, there was a tie between Hip-hop and Rock, each with 43 votes. With students stating their favorite artists as Kanye West, Greta Van Fleet, Swae Lee, Gorillaz, Kendrick Lamar, Deftones, and yet again, Taylor Swift.
Surprisingly, R&B, or rhythm and blues, took third, with 35 votes. Students noted Hiatus Kaiyote, Micheal Jackson, Joji, and The Weeknd as their favorite artists in this genre.
In the runner up positions, also a tie, Indie and Country. With artists such as Morgan Wallen, The Arctic Monkeys, Zach Brown, Parecles, and Dolly Parton cited as the favorites among those polled.
The two most written in genres were Metal and K-Pop, with four votes each. Students who favored Metal mentioned Motionless in White, Metallica, Alice in Chains, and Megadeth. Those who wrote in for K-pop expressed their enjoyment of Jisoo, TXT, Stay-C and ATEEZ.
It is safe to say that West students enjoy a wide variety of music. The poll is open for anyone who would like to participate in the poll here.
