Congratulations to West High students Nevaeh Chamlee, Luke Davis, Hayden O'Keefe, and Elizabeth Parton for obtaining their industry certification in Adobe Photoshop 2023. These certifications are earned as part of the West Side Story newspaper staff curriculuum. Students practiced simulation tests, tutorials, and performed Photoshop assignments prior to taking the industry exam. The international exam comprises 17 live tasks and 13 questions over a 50 minute testing period. Other courses who are beginning to offer Photoshop certifications are graphic design and yearbook.

Several benefits are offered for those who earn an industry certification. First, Career and Technical Education industry certifications allow students to graduate with distinction if they holds a 3.0 GPA and industry certification. They are granted a white stole and moved toward the front of the graduation line. Also, students who earn a 19 or higher on the ACT with an industry certification earn a tri-star pin to wear at graduation. Furthermore, industry certifications are recognized all over that world to prove an individual has passed skills needed for specific industry requirements and make students more employable.

Careers that used Photoshop industry certifications include web developers, graphic artists, journalists, business communications, photographers, and advertisers. Hayden O'Keefe, student, implies, "Earning distinction is a big deal. Industry certifications look great on a resume and a college application."
