West High Boys and Girls golf teams competed in the District Tournament on Oct. 21. They competed at the Link Hills Golf Club in Greeneville. The boys' team tied for second place, and the Girls' team tied for fifth place. Congratulations to Savannah Wampler and the Boys' team for advancing to the regional tournament next week on Monday, Sep. 27.
Mr. Ralph Noble is the coach of the golf teams. Referring to the Boys' team, he remarks, “Our boys have had a good season. Last week we won the conference championship, and we were undefeated in the regular season until our very last match.” He goes on to mention the success of seniors Kevin Campbell, Noah Morrison, and Brock Shultz. Noble’s younger players, Grayson Smith and Todd Greene have stepped up and played well also.
The girls, who only have two players, played very well. Noble complimented, "They both worked really hard and put in some good practice time.” Savannah Wampler will be playing in the regional tournament next Monday also. She expressed, “The season has been a little rough so far but I hope we’ll do okay in Regionals.” Junior Jamie Shepard played very well and was one spot away from qualifying for the regional tournament. Noble is exceedingly proud of these girls, who have played in extreme pressure.
