Weidman's climbing Figures bring happiness to the office

Amber Weidman is an art teacher with two and a half years of experience, having spent the first two years in New York and now teaching at West. She discusses the impact of being at West: "I remember having blocks, similar to writer's block, the last few years in my personal work, but something about this environment has brought it back. Be it moving to another state, working with new students, or something else in the water, I have truly enjoyed having my spark back." The Spark has motivated Weidman's art class to arrange an exhibit to brighten up the office windows. The "Climbing Figures" are pieces crafted by her Art 1 students.

These pieces were inspired by an artist named Ancizar Marin, whose work with climbing figures was the main source of inspiration. The "Climbing Figures" were constructed using wire, newspaper, and the material used for making casts for broken bones. Once completed, her class spray-painted them to add color.

Weidman shares "I am so proud of these students. Each sculpture has its own personality and I enjoy the harmony in the chaos of the figures." Weidman believes that anybody can create art, it just takes practice and time.
