Jessica Gonzalez Martinez Leads with Excellence at West High

Jessica Gonzalez Martinez is a West High senior. She is a part of the FBLA, DECA, Spanish club, Band, Beta, Yearbook, and Student Council. Martinez is originally from Morristown.  She commented, “My favorite part of West High is the diversity of people you can meet here. I've made a lot of friends that vary a lot, and it's nice to be able to bloom many friendships.”

Martinez is in her senior year of high school. Her main goals for her senior year are to get her GPA up, raise her ACT scores, join more clubs, lead with excellence, graduate, and to get a lot of scholarships so she can hopefully make it to UTK. She wants to attend a four year college after high school, If not, she plans to go to Walter State Community College after high school.

She is currently taking  Prep for ACT, Band, Economics, and DE Psych. Next semester she is taking Marketing and Management II: Adv Strategy, Mathematical Reasoning, DE Comp II, and Business Communications YB. Martinez expressed, “My advice for underclassmen is to get involved early. I remember in middle school the videos I would see were about what grade you did not have to try and what grades you did have to lock in. It is all a lie. If you are determined to go to a good college, you have to lock in every year. Consider joining clubs, put yourself in leadership roles, and always help out when possible for service hours. You never know who you can meet while helping out and what connections you can make.”
