FBLA and DECA Holds First Business Club Meeting

FBLA and DECA held their first business club meeting on Monday, Aug. 30. This is the first time FBLA and DECA have joined into one club with Mrs. Cook, Mrs. Cutshaw, and Mrs. Whaley being the sponsors. Both clubs can still have separate events, but this allows students to participate in both clubs which deal with business.

During the meeting, Mrs. Cutshaw who is a business teacher and DECA sponsor mentioned that other high schools in the state have had a combined business club involving FBLA and DECA. Steven Mitchell is the state advisor for both DECA and FBLA so it makes it easy for both clubs to be combined. Students voted on a T-Shirt design for business club during the meeting and discussed the opportunities that the clubs can provide. Snacks were also provided during the meeting. Nicole Butler, West High FBLA president shared some of the activities that FBLA has participated in during the past few years including the Thanksgiving drive and Toys For Tots.

Students are still welcome to join FBLA and DECA. Business club plans to have their next meeting Sep. 27. Snacks are provided at each meeting and the club provides students with opportunities to gain work ethic diploma and who’s who points along with the ability to build long lasting relationships.
