Andrew Dunn - Media & Communication from ETSU visits West Side Story, Aston

The chair of Media & Communication at ETSU, Dr. Andrew Dunn, met with the West Side Story staff and Aston team members on Wednesday, May 7. Dunn started the meeting by distributing ETSU goodies, with the assistance of a student, as he introduced himself and commenced his presentation.

He started off detailing the courses, certifications, and skills needed in the media industry and explained how ETSU offers these opportunities through different avenues. ETSU features a film club, a dedicated club for Women in Film, a radio club (The Edge 89.5 HD4), a media club, an online newspaper (Overlooked in Appalachia), and a print newspaper (The East Tennessean).

Overall, the presentation was very informative. Dunn discussed the importance of students' social media presence and online persona and its effect on students future professional lives. He suggested that every student entering the workforce and college needs a LinkedIn presence and electronic portfolio to stay competitive in post-secondary opportunities.
