Thanksgiving drive: Hat day

Wednesday Nov.8, West High is hosting a hat day to raise funds for Central Services food pantry. Students must donate $1 in first period to receive a Thanksgiving sticker. They may not wear a hat unless they are wearing a Thanksgiving sticker. All staff are encouraged to pay $5 to wear jeans on this day with their hat.


The national poverty rate for children ages 5-17 is 12.9%. Unfortunately, the Hamblen County poverty rate for children ages 5-17 is 21.1%. The percentage of Hamblen County residents with lack of safe and nutritious food for normal growth and development is 13.5 %. Collection envelopes will be placed in teacher’s boxes with the stickers a day ahead. Everyone please donate to Central Services and wear a hat.
